Call of Duty: Warzone shutting down on PS4 and Xbox One later this year

Despite Call of Duty continuing the fight on Xbox One and PS4 for way beyond its welcome, older hardware is about to be left behind. This includes Call of Duty: Warzone shutting down on those platforms later this year.

Call of Duty is abandoning last-generation consoles with Modern Warfare 4. The upcoming entry in the series will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and for the first time, the Nintendo Switch 2. This means you will need a PC that meets the minimum system requirements, or a current-generation console, to continue playing Warzone.

Warzone is leaving PS4 and Xbox One with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1

Since Call of Duty: Warzone is integrated with multiplayer, the shutdown on Xbox One and PS4 is required for Warzone to transition into this new era with the rest of the franchise. As part of this transition to current-generation hardware, Call of DutyWarzone will sunset on PS4 and Xbox One starting with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.

From June 4, 2026, the game will no longer be available for new downloads on those platforms, but existing players can continue playing until the beginning of Season 1.

Some items, such as Call of Duty points purchases, will no longer be available on those platforms. On June 25, the Warzone in-game store on PS4 and Xbox One will be removed. Progression will continue through the free battle pass tiers, including unlocking new weapons in the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons.

It’s unknown when Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 will roll out, but if past titles are anything to go by, the first seasonal update usually goes live approximately three weeks after the game’s launch. Modern Warfare 4 will make its debut on October 23, 2026.
