Planet Zoo 2 opens its doors in October with aquatics and aviaries

planet zoo 2 reveal

Seven years after Frontier Developments released Planet Zoo, it has been announced that Planet Zoo 2 will open for business on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S this October.

Planet Zoo 2 gameplay is expected to focus on realism by building a world that feels genuinely alive. Fresh mechanics will also be on show as you manage zoo life, staff morale, and let your creativity run wilder than the world your guests will experience.

A new era of zookeeping

The Planet Zoo 2 reveal trailer begins by showing off one of the game’s major additions: aquariums. They will come alongside aviaries, meaning fully aquatic and flying creatures will enter the series for the first time. Aquatic creatures you can house in aquariums range from the critically endangered Hawksbill Turtle to the comical Ocean Sunfish. As for aviaries, they can be set up for guests to walk through and populated with lively birds such as Toco Toucans.

All of the animals are subject to a new behaviour system. Planet Zoo 2 features a living UI that will see animals behave differently depending on their current mood, indicating whether or not you need to make changes. All animal interactions are built to feel natural and authentic, while keeping creature-specific details intact.

In Planet Zoo 2, you are expected to build habitats that reflect the natural environment of each species and conservation efforts. Well-designed habitats improve animal welfare and guest experience, therefore increasing zoo ratings, all of which contribute to generating the income you need to expand.

Beyond the zoo, you will take on conservation projects across the globe and assist in maintaining wildlife reserves by releasing your zoo animals back into their natural habitats.

Planet Zoo 2 will launch on October 13, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a price tag of £39.99/$49.99 for the Standard Edition and £54.99/$64.99 for the Deluxe Edition.

Eager zookeepers who place a pre-order of either edition will receive the Bonus Content Pack at launch, containing the Toucan Eat Shop and Signage, three Unique Animal Donation Bins, and the Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall.
