The next instalment of the Call of Duty franchise has been confirmed to be Modern Warfare 4, and it will transport players to the heart of conflict in South Korea, after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the region. The reveal trailer premiered on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel, providing a glimpse at the story, environment, and characters.
At launch, Modern Warfare 4 will have 12 maps inspired by the setting. Expect new faces, and of course, franchise favourites such as Captain Price and Valeria to return. Multiplayer is described as being grounded, with an emphasis on precise combat and fluid movement mechanics.
Modern Warfare 4 takes players to new territory
Call of Duty is one of the few titles that has its annual release around the time Grand Theft Auto 6 will make its debut on November 19, 2026. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 released in the second week of November, while Infinity Ward’s last title, Modern Warfare 2, arrived on October 28 2022.
After much speculation, it has now been confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will release slightly earlier than usual on October 23, 2026. The game will leave old-generation consoles behind, launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and even the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time.
As expected, Modern Warfare 4 will come in a Standard Edition and a Vault Edition, both of which are available to pre-order now. Placing a pre-order secures Early Access to the open beta, a date for which has yet to be announced. Notably, Modern Warfare 4 won’t be available via Game Pass at launch.
More information will also arrive on a DMZ mode that fans will get a first look at during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026.
