2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for game releases, from Resident Evil Requiem to 007 First Light, and of course, Grand Theft Auto 6. Playground Games is also expected to ship Fable in 2026, but rumours of internal delays could change that.
According to insider Jeff Grubb, there have been claims circulating that Fable has been delayed internally. Despite this, Grubb says that Microsoft still plans to release Fable this year.
In a clip posted by Idle Sloth on X, Grubb states, “I’ll say that I’ve heard that Fable has been pushed internally. That doesn’t mean that it’s coming out next year. Apparently, they’re still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. So if it’s getting delayed beyond the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027.”
It wouldn’t be the first time Fable faced a delay. In fact, it still doesn’t have a launch date set in stone. The upcoming entry in the series was first announced in 2020, but players had to wait until 2023 to see a trailer. It was then given a 2025 release window, before being delayed to the autumn of 2026.
At the time of writing, there has been no official word from Playground Games on whether or not Fable will be delayed. If the game does get pushed back, an announcement is likely to come later this year.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated to make its debut on November 19, 2026. The chances are that nobody, Fable included, will want to go head-to-head with such a heavy hitter.
