The World Series of Warzone (WSOW) is the biggest Warzone event of the year, backed by Activision with a whopping million dollar prize pool on the line. Players have been battling it out this weekend in the open qualifiers for the North America region. Despite being the most anticipated tournament in the Warzone space, the same issue plagues the event every single year, cheaters.
Cheaters have been running rampant in Warzone ever since the battle royale launched back in 2020. With Activision’s Team Ricochet failing to put an end to the ongoing hacking situation, cheaters are bleeding through into the qualifier stage of the WSOW, which lies in the way of making it to the LAN portion of the tournament.
Competitive Warzone players have taken to X to showcase instances of cheating in the NA open qualifier for the WSOW 2025. Just one example of a player being JoeWo, competing under OpTic Gaming, one of the biggest organisations in the esports scene.
With the caption “we play a very serious and competitive esport for $1,000,000.” JoeWo shared a clip of the OpTic trio in the endgame of a match, when an opponent suspected of using aimbot snapped onto the Warzone veteran from a distance using the LC10 submachine gun. As a fan pointed out in the comments section of the clip “that’s just one of the more blatant ones.”
Not only is this a huge issue for professional Warzone players, but once again, the integrity of competitive Warzone is up for question. Even two-time World Series of Warzone champion, Andrew “Biffle” Diaz, revealed in 2024 that he was going to leave the esport behind, telling close friends he was retiring. The struggling state of Warzone, combined with cheaters continues to drive some of the very best players away from the game.
Year after year, fans have been hoping for Activision to step up with a solution that keeps cheaters out of the space in order to allow the esport to reach its potential. However, Activision have seemingly opted to continue with their strategy of radio silence.
