SnowRunner carves its way onto Mac

SnowRunner has released on Mac

Well over three years since its initial release, Saber Interactive’s hit off-road sim SnowRunner has finally been released on Mac.

The game is now available on Mac in all the expected places: Steam, Epic Games Store and the Mac App Store, and better yet, all of the additional content released since 2020 is accessible (including paid DLC.)

Snowing in Apple Park

Containing over 40 vehicles from various real-world manufacturers, SnowRunner offers a highly complex off-road driving simulation experience where players are tasked with delivering goods and equipment across large open-world maps with treacherous terrain. There are new areas to discover and conquer, along with various terrain hazards to avoid and overcome.

This release of SnowRunner on Mac finally brings the popular driving sim to various models natively; beforehand, one would’ve had to rely on streaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming in order to play on a Mac.

SnowRunner on Mac can be played across the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro lineups, as long as they have the right chipset. In short, all of the non Apple Silicon-based systems from a few years ago are not compatible with this title. Thus, your Mac will need to have at least an M1 in order to run this and of course, 40GB of free space.

Mod support has been retained in the Mac release, along with cross-play functionality with other platforms. SnowRunner players on Mac can seamlessly jump into multiplayer sessions with friends even if they’re on other platforms.

Cross-progression between all versions of the game has been promised to arrive by the end of this year, but still hasn’t been deployed just yet.

More in the box and on the horizon

Alongside the release of SnowRunner on Mac, players on all platforms can also now purchase two new DLC packs: a new truck, the Kenworth W990, and the Jack of All Treads Tire Pack (which includes 50+ tire and rim combinations for all vehicles.) Both are standalone purchases, meaning they’re not available in either the Year 1, Year 2, or Year 3 Passes.

While SnowRunner is clearly still being actively supported, its fanbase is eagerly waiting to see more of its recently-announced successor, Expeditions. The new title is serving as a direct sequel to MudRunner, but nevertheless retains and expands on the series’ signature complex off-road simulation. It’s expected to release sometime in 2024.
