Xbox Series S dawns a carbon black look with a 1TB upgrade

This September, Microsoft will have the Xbox Series S slip into its evening attire, with a fresh, new, all-black colour wave.

In addition to the new colour, this upcoming variant of the system will also be bumped up to a full 1TB internal SSD.

New colour, who dis?

Certainly, the new colour scheme brings the Xbox Series S even closer in looks to its bigger brother, the Xbox Series X. But, despite the similarities in now both colour and storage, the Series S is still being targeted at more budget-conscious buyers, as the new variant will go for only $349.99 USD.

As with existing SKUs, the new black Xbox Series S will come with a controller (also in black,) a charging cable and an HDMI cable.

The Xbox Series S is not as technologically capable as the Xbox Series X, but it does feature the same advanced features, such as Quick Resume, Xbox Velocity Architecture and more, keeping the experience across both systems relatively comparable. Rather than focusing on full 4K gaming with ray-tracing, however, the Series S specializes in typically targeting 1440p and 60 FPS for most games.

Since launch, the Xbox Series S has only officially been available in a primarily white model, with black accents; bearing resemblance to the previous Xbox One S. If you want to keep your entertainment setup colour coded, then this new black model should look sleek.

Additionally, the Xbox Series S has always had the smaller storage option until now. Despite being a digital only system, it has only featured under 400GB of useable storage. With modern titles seemingly getting larger and larger every year, the upgrade to 1TB will be integral. If you need even more storage for your system, there are officially-licensed proprietary expansion cards for both systems, now at lower prices.

The all-black Xbox Series S launches on September 1, just weeks before the upcoming Forza Motorsport (October) and also ahead of the newly-announced Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (TBA 2024).
