What order do I play the Yakuza games in? is a question that crops up among new players, or when the franchise gets a fresh entry. If you want to play the Yakuza series in chronological order, we’ve got all the details, below.
There are 8 main Yakuza releases, however, there are a couple of remakes and a whole host of spin-offs.
All Yakuza games in chronological order
The chronological order of the Yakuza series is almost parallel to the order in which they were released. You can play through the series in the following order:
- Yakuza 0 (2014)
- Yakuza (2005)
- Yakuza 2 (2006)
- Yakuza 3 (2009)
- Yakuza 4 (2010)
- Yakuza 5 (2012)
- Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (2016)
- Yakuza: Like a Dragon (2020)
It appears that the Yakuza franchise isn’t slowing down any time soon. Now renamed to ‘Like a Dragon,’ there are two releases on the way. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is set to release on November 9, 2023. Also, the sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon (2020) was revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase back in June. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is scheduled for 2024.
If you’re playing the Yakuza series for the first time and you’re really into chronology, you should consider starting with Like A Dragon: Ishin! This is a standalone title that is set hundreds of years before the main series.
