American Truck Simulator is continuing its historically inaccurate eastward map expansion, as SCS has formally announced the next state up is Louisiana.
This announcement comes just weeks after the release of the Arkansas DLC and will take virtual truckers truly into the Deep South region of the US.

Home to around 4.6 million people, Louisiana is a state that’s known for its unique culture. A lot of historical events took place within its borders, leading to the vivacious mix of multilingual and multicultural demographics of its modern residents.
As American Truck Simulator began its early days in the far west of the country, the eastward expansion has brought the more lush landscapes of the Great Plains and the striking scenery of the Rockies.
Louisiana is far different than most of the other states covered thus far, as it has a coastline—and a vast one at that. While the north of the state contains plains and farmland, the more humid southern portion is home to coastal bayous, swamps, and the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Industrial variety is also on Louisiana’s side, as it contains a diverse array of different heavy industries that require trucking work. From gas production to fishing, forestry, and agricultural production—there are dozens upon dozens of goods and equipment that need hauling in, out, and around the state.
A postcard from the future
Louisiana is still in early days, so it’ll be some time before the virtual truckers of American Truck Simulator will be able to explore its scenic variety. That said, its announcement does create an interesting new dynamic for the sim’s expanding world map.
As of now, the sim’s map pushes deep into the east and southeast. Nebraska was released all the way back in May and, as mentioned, Arkansas was released back in September.
Both North and South Dakota have yet to be touched, despite both Montana and Wyoming releasing quite some time ago. No doubt they’re in development, but perhaps their vast area size is the reason why smaller states like Louisiana are being formally announced first.
Either way, SCS is gradually completing its goal of allowing American Truck Simulator to live up to the full potential of its name.
Time will tell as to exactly how long this goal will take to reach in its entirety, but the team has arguably only been getting better with its scenery design with every subsequent release. The excitement for Louisiana’s eventual release is justified.
