Orbitals will launch with Global Friend’s Pass and local co-op demo

The anime-style Nintendo Switch exclusive, Orbitals, has confirmed all of the ways you’ll be able to play the two-player co-op adventure.

Orbitals will have a Friend’s Pass, similar to that of It Takes Two, meaning only one person needs to own the game for both players to experience it together. Online GameShare, local co-op, and local GameShare will be available, too.

How to play Orbitals with a friend locally, and via Global Friend’s Pass

To play local co-op on Nintendo Switch 2, one player needs a copy of the game, while two sets of controllers are required to play. GameShare allows you to partner up locally, including teaming up on the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and the OLED model.

If both you and the friend you want to play with have a Nintendo Switch 2 and only one of you owns a copy of the game, youโ€™ll be able to play together online using the Global Friendโ€™s Pass application. To use the Orbitals Global Friendโ€™s Pass, the player who owns the game must invite the other player, who needs to have the Global Friend’s Pass application installed. Accepting the invite will let you team up for the entire playthrough.

Included in the Global Friend’s Pass app is a local co-op demo for Orbitals, so you can try it out as a duo before committing to a purchase.

If both you and your friend own a Nintendo Switch 2 console, youโ€™ll also be able to play using GameShare online. Again, just one of you will need to own a copy of the game to connect on another device using GameShare and GameChat.

Notably, a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for both players to play online and use GameShare online features.

The Orbitals release date is September 3, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2.
