NBA 2K25 server sunset takes singleplayer mode with it

nba 2k25 shutting down

After its September 2024 release, NBA 2K25 is the next NBA game to be removed from digital storefronts. The game will be delisted in October, before online servers go offline at the end of the year.

While it’s not uncommon for sports games to be delisted and have their servers shut down, 2K has been taking down NBA games that are a mere two years old. It forces players to move to the latest entry, and it means the progress you made in MyCAREER becomes useless.

A final slam dunk for NBA 2K25

Regardless, NBA 2K25 is set to be officially discontinued as of December 31, 2026. The game will be delisted from storefronts, meaning it will no longer be available for purchase as of October 30, 2026.

As of January 1, 2027, you’ll no longer be able to play multiplayer games or access any online game modes on NBA 2K25. Since singleplayer requires an online connection, this expands to MyCAREER and MyTEAM no longer being available, and it will no longer be possible to earn Virtual Currency (VC).

If you already own the game, you will still be able to redownload and play offline modes, including Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA, but any features that require a connection to 2K servers will be unavailable. This includes multiplayer, Online Leagues, and community sharing.

The latest NBA game is NBA 2K27, which launched in September 2026. It sits at a Top Critic Average Score of 76 on OpenCritic, slightly above NBA 2K25’s score of 75.

You’ll have to splash out £59.99 for the Standard Edition of NBA 2K27 to continue hitting the court for at least another two years.
