The Rust July update has arrived, known as Common Ground. There’s a new monument in the form of an apartment complex, and even rentable shops nearby that are used to sell items.
As always, there’s a whole host of new content and improvements to dive into. Let’s take a look at the key features included in the Common Ground update.
Rust Common Ground update breakdown
The Rust Common Ground update introduces apartments to rent, from the basement to a penthouse. Room types come with different perks, such as extra storage, for example. However, the better the perks, the higher the price to rent the room.
Once you’ve rented a room, be sure to insert scrap into the slot next to your door, or you’ll be evicted and have your possessions seized. There is a master key hidden on the island, and if you find it, you’ll be able to access any occupied room in the apartment complex for five minutes.
Apartments aren’t all you can rent thanks to the Rust Common Ground update, but you can rent shops, too. Purchase and run a shop at the marketplace within the grounds of the apartment complex to sell your wares to the residents.

When you become the proud owner of a shop by paying the upfront and real-time scrap fees, you can modify the sale listings and adjust stock levels like any other Vending Machine. Keep in mind that the master key can also be used on shops to steal stored goods.
Another major addition is a Clan system, described as a “more advanced version of teams, where you can have more members with different roles/permissions.” There is a separate clan chat channel, and clans can be created and managed at Clan Tables.
The Common Ground update brings more changes and improvements to Rust, including better player animations, a glowing wallpaper pack, and faster progression in Softcore. The full patch notes can be viewed here.
