Paper Rex crowned Valorant Masters Toronto champions

The grand final of VCT Toronto saw Fnatic and Paper Rex battle it out to become the latest championship winners. Paper Rex made it through to the grand final via the winner’s bracket, while Fnatic had to make a lower bracket run after losing to Gen.G in the winner’s bracket quarter finals. However, Paper Rex had the last word, taking the victory over Fnatic to become Valorant Masters Toronto champions.

Up until now, Paper Rex has gone through a string of unfortunate placings. In Valorant Masters Tokyo 2023 they finished in third, then coming second at Valorant Champions 2023, and once again, taking home bronze at Valorant Masters Madrid in 2024.

Curses are meant to be broken

The grand final was a best of five and the scores for each map were as follows:

  • Sunset – 13:11 to PRX
  • Icebox – 17:15 to Fnatic
  • Pearl – 13:10 to PRX
  • Lotus – 14:12 to PRX

Despite being on the backfoot on numerous occasions, it felt like Paper Rex were in control for the entire series. On Pearl, for example, Fnatic managed to go up 7–5, but Paper Rex were able to go on a 8–3 run in the second half. There were many back and fourths across all four maps played in this series, but Paper Rex seemingly always grasped the momentum and clutched up in the big moments, which is what led them to close out the grand final.

The final round on Lotus saw Paper Rex take front B control, while Fnatic opted to play it passively, ensuring not to throw away their lives. Initially, this worked, as Fnatic took down three Paper Rex players in quick succession. This left Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto and lya “something” Petrov in a 2v4 situation.

Paper Rex planted B, and f0rsakeN managed to get a pick on the flank by pushing through the Omen smoke. The Paper Rex duo then worked together in close proximity, with something on the high ground at the B site and f0rsakeN on the opposite side, wiping out the remaining Fnatic players that pushed onto the site.

The MVP of the series was given to Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto, who is also the first Indonesian player to win a VCT Global tournament.

With this victory, Paper Rex now have their first international Valorant title, taking home $350,000 and earning 7 valuable VCT points along the way.
