A rather cryptic press release has come out of Nintendo of Canada, wherein the company states that there will be a “pricing update” for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems. No hard details have been provided at this time, as that’s set to come in August.
Higher and higher?
The press release is rather short, simply stating that these pricing updates come as a result of “market conditions.” The changes apply to all original Nintendo Switch variants (OLED, Lite and base,) along with amiibo figurines and Nintendo Switch Online memberships. Switch accessories and games (both physical and digital,) have also been squarely mentioned.
Rather annoyingly, Nintendo of Canada fails to explicitly mention which direction these changes will go in; likely a form of damage control. It seems that crucial detail will be revealed on August 1 via the official Nintendo of Canada website.

For now, the Nintendo Switch 2, its games and accessories, will not be part of these updates.
The previously cited mention of a need to change “based on market conditions” comes directly after US President Trump announced a termination of trade talks with Canada. It’s likely not coincidental that this negative turnout has been followed by a seemingly negative announcement from Nintendo.
Ongoing trade complications have been affecting Nintendo (and other companies) throughout 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 infamously had its pre-order schedule disrupted in the US and Canada for several weeks. When it was restored, accessories received higher prices, but games and hardware spared. Still, the company left the door open for further adjustments “as needed.”
It’s fair to conclude that most consumers weren’t expecting the original Nintendo Switch family to receive any sort of price hikes so late into its life. But, Microsoft has already set a precedent in that regard with the implementation of significant price hikes across the board for the Xbox Series line of hardware and software.
Whether a further pricing update similar to that of Nintendo Canada will come to other markets, only time will tell.
