Workers that are part of France’s Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) union took part in a nationwide strike on February 13. To help cover the costs associated with lost wages, the union has put together a Grève Bundle GG25 on Itch.io, offering over 50 games and a range of other digital content from 45 creators for $10.
There are a whole host of games that make up this bundle, from puzzles, to cosy management games, and narrative-driven experiences.
It’s just the beginning
STJV marked the occasion in a post on X, stating that “today will make history in the video game industry. Strikes in 3 countries, more than 1,000 people at our rallies across France, and even more on strike for our working conditions and our jobs’ future. The balance of power has shifted.”
Although this was the first major strike, it doesn’t appear that it will be the last. Through the strikes, union workers demand:
- Direct participation of workers in decision-making at their companies in order to avoid management errors and control the proper use of private and public funding.
- Preservation of jobs, the cancellation of layoffs and the accountability of decision-makers who must first make sacrifices themselves when their companies face difficulties.
- Companies’ full transparency about their financial situation and economic health, so that workers can plan their future, and profit sharing with workers.
- Consideration for work-related health and personal life, through work reorganisation and the reduction of work hours.
At the time of writing, the Grève Bundle GG25 has raised $33,205.92 on Itch.io. The bundle will be available to purchase for players that want to show their support until February 28, 2025.
