Free-to-play shooter, The Division Heartland has been cancelled by Ubisoft, so you no longer need to deploy in the middle of a violent conflict between a group of dangerous rogue Division agents and an aggressive gang of survivors.
Development on The Division Heartland has come to a halt with immediate effect, with Ubisoft stating that “increased selectivity of its investments” was behind their decision.
There have been various opportunities for players to get acquainted with the Heartlands, with deep dives and even a closed beta which took place in June, 2023. However, it’s the end of the road for what would’ve been the third entry to The Division franchise.
The Division Heartland is no more
In a Ubisoft earnings call, it was revealed that “as part of Ubisoft’s efforts to streamline its operations and adapt to evolving market trends, there have been further reorganizations within the Global Publishing teams, both at the APAC region, that is now organized into three engagement hubs, and at the central level. Additionally, in line with the increased selectivity of its investments, Ubisoft has decided to stop development on The Division Heartland and has redeployed resources to bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six.“
Heartland was originally announced in May 2021 as an expansion to The Division universe. Now, it will never see the light of day, with the team behind the cancelled survival experience moving on to Rainbow Six Siege and XDefiant.
Although the news may be disappointing to The Division fans, there’s plenty more action to come. Rainbow Six Siege continues to be supported nearing a decade after it launched, while XDefiant is preparing to hit the free-to-play arena shooter market on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles on May 21, 2024.
