The Horizon Wave update turns back time in Forza Horizon 5 as it infuses the neon vibes of retro-futurism into the virtual streets of Horizon Mexico. Not only is the game’s map getting a synthwave makeover, but player’s also have a chance to score five new rides, all of which are a fitting mix of classic and modern auto innovation.
What’s old is new again
Nostalgia is what fuels this new season, as the neon lights, synthy new Horizon Wave music station, and five new cars all serve as a blast from the past.
The main highway on the game’s map has been remade into the Neon Highway, which includes neon rails and palm trees that pulse to the beat of the in-game radio. There’s also the Horizon Wave sunset drone show that hovers near the Stadium, serving as a beautiful set piece in the day and particularly at night; the latter of which will run longer throughout the season.
Of course, the stars of the show are the new cars. Serving as a true blast-from-the-past, the new season of content opens with the 2021 Lamborghini Contauch; a remake of the classic supercar from decades ago. As of May 25, the truly retrofuturistic 2022 Hyundai N Vision 74 will be up for grabs; the new modern sports hybrid that takes complete inspiration from eras gone.
The three other cars are truly iconic classics: the 1986 BMW M635CSi, 1980 Lotus Espirit Turbo and 1986 Citroen BX 4TC will all be gradually rolled out throughout the rest of the season which runs until almost the end of June.
EventLab creators are also benefitting from new retrowave props, including the same neon-filled objects that are being used throughout the map during this series. Thus, synthy races and arenas aplenty are bound to be produced moving forward, long after this series officially comes to an end.
These details are just some of the highlights of the new Forza Horizon 5 update. Playground Games has released a new video which shows off all the bits of the bobs of the Retrowave update for Forza Horizon 5.
