Arguably, 2023 has been one of the best years for gaming in a very long time. Highly anticipated entries launched such as Bethesda’s RPG Starfield, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, just to name a few. Google has now revealed what the most searched games of 2023 were and the list features some surprises.
The results are based on Google’s Year in Search 2023, showing what was trending globally, including searches related to gaming.
Google’s top 10 most searched games of 2023 are in
1) Hogwarts Legacy
2) The Last of Us
3) Connections
4) Battlegrounds Mobile India
5) Starfield
6) Baldur’s Gate 3
7) スイカ ゲーム (Suika Game)
8) Diablo IV
9) Atomic Heart
10) Sons of the Forest
Hogwarts Legacy was extremely successful and not just in the Google search rankings. However, it failed to receive a nomination for Game of the Year which many fans were surprised by to say the least. In fact, the world of witches and wizardry didn’t receive a single nomination at the industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony.
On the other hand, Baldur’s Gate 3 which took the title of Game of the Year, along with more accolades appears sixth on the list.
Perhaps the most surprising game to make the list is the New York Times game, Connections. The publication which found success with Wordle has found success with another word game, tasking puzzle fans to connect groups of four items that share something in common.
Although the majority of games on this list are huge AAA titles, it’s always great to see games created by smaller studios up there such as Sons of the Forest. The sequel to The Forest went into Early Access on PC on February 23, 2023, but is yet to get a console release.
