Charles Martinet, who was the voice of Mario and Luigi for 25 years stepped away from the role in August to become a Mario ambassador. Ever since, fans have been speculating who the new voice of Mario and Luigi will be.
However, it won’t be long until we hear the character’s revamped voice for the first time, as Kevin Afghani revealed he has taken on the role and he will make his debut on Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which releases next week.
Meet the new Mario and Luigi voice actor
Kevin Afghani revealed the news on X (formerly Twitter,) stating:
“Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!”
This may not be the first time you’ve heard Kevin Afghani’s work, as he voiced Raditz in the Dragon Ball R&R series and even played Arnold in Genshin Impact.
Fellow voice actors were quick to congratulate Afghani on his new role. Included, is Ben Starr, who is the voice actor of Clive in Final Fantasy XVI. Similarly, the general consensus among gamers is that they’re looking forward to hearing the new voices for the first time.
There’s no doubt that Martinet will be missed, especially by veteran fans of the Super Mario franchise. Regardless, we look forward to seeing the game step into this new era.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder will launch on October 20 on Nintendo Switch.
