The next entry to the Mortal Kombat series is almost here and the iconic franchise is getting ready to introduce fans to a fresh fighting system, action-packed game modes, and some new and returning faces. However, NetherRealm Studios has announced that Mortal Kombat 1 won’t have crossplay at launch.
Crossplay allows users to play together, regardless of the platform they’re on and it’s pretty much expected to be in modern fighting games.
Mortal Kombat 1 will get crossplay “post launch”
The news was first posted on the official Mortal Kombat 1 X account (formerly Twitter.)
The post reads:
“Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1. Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch.”
It’s interesting that the absence of crossplay was revealed just two days before launch, but that’s a conversation for another day. Nevertheless, it’s promising to learn that there will be crossplay eventually, but we don’t have a specific date for when it will go live in Mortal Kombat 1.
Although crossplay is considered by many as a must-have feature, it has had its fair share of problems. Recently, the team behind The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game made the decision to remove crossplay between console and PC players due to cheaters.
Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on September 19. Those with early access can hop in on September 14.
