If you prefer the PS4 controller over the PS5 DualShock, you’re not alone. Luckily, you can connect your PS4 controller with the PS5 and this guide will show you how.
If you’ve made the upgrade from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5, its still worth holding on to your old controllers. They’re not completely unusable, at least for now.
How to connect and use your PS4 controller with a PS5
Get your PS4 controller ready to use by following a few steps:
- From your PS5, open up the “Settings,” then “General,” and “Bluetooth Accessories”
- Put your DualShock 4 into Pairing mode by pressing and holding the PS4 controller’s Share button and PlayStation button at the same time until the light on the top of the controller begins to flash
- A “DualShock 4” option should appear on your TV or monitor as a Bluetooth device
- Select it using your PS5 controller and press “X”
- Your PS4 controller should now be paired with your PS5 and you can start playing
Its worth noting that a PS4 controller can only be used if you’re playing a PS4 game on the PS5. If you’re trying to play a PS5 game using a PS4 controller, it won’t work. A PS5 controller is required to play PS5 games.
If the PS4 controller has been paired with the PS5 before, the PS4 controller will show up under “Registered accessories.” Also, you can remove a PS4 controller by selecting it under “Registered accessories” and then press X and you’ll be given the option to delete it.
Now you’ve got your PS4 controller ready, you can load up your favourite game and begin using it.
