Call of Duty YouTuber known as Tdawgsmitty, has launched a petition to remove skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) from Call of Duty.
After Destiny fans successfully advocated for Bungie to revive the game, Tdawgsmitty is trying to rally the troops in the hopes of reaching the same outcome regarding SBMM in Call of Duty.

According to Tdawgsmitty, “Call of Duty public multiplayer needs to feel casual again.”
He continues, “For many of us, the excitement of classic Call of Duty came from the unpredictability. You could dominate one match, struggle in the next, and meet all kinds of players along the way. That variety made the experience memorable and gave you a reason to keep playing.”
However, he isn’t asking for SBMM to be erased from the game completely. The YouTuber believes SBMM shouldn’t be present in standard, unranked public playlists, and connection quality should be prioritised instead.
However, Tdawgsmitty believes there is a place for SBMM, and that’s in Ranked Play, where players deliberately choose to match with players on a similar skill level in competitive lobbies.
The Black Ops 7 beta was the first time developers responded to SBMM concerns, launching Open playlists and Standard matchmaking. The Modern Warfare 4 beta took a similar approach with updates, but SBMM was still very much felt.
At the time of writing, Tdawgsmitty’s Call of Duty SBMM petition sits at almost 8,000 signatures. Being just a month away from the launch of Modern Warfare 4, it’s unlikely that a new matchmaking system can be implemented for launch day.
But, you never know, Call of Duty may give players what they want, as SBMM debates have continued to swirl since 2019.
