Grand Theft Auto 6 developer, Rockstar Games, has broken its radio silence by releasing a statement addressing the leaked videos showing gameplay and cutscenes from the upcoming game, posted by an unidentified user who goes by the name CYBERLEEK.
Since August 18, CYBERLEEK has been releasing clips of GTA 6 gameplay, with some story cutscenes. Despite the leaks being legitimate, it was unknown how much access the leaker had to the game. That’s until they shocked the gaming world by writing “LEEK” on a wall in the game, indicating that they had access to a GTA 6 build.
All of this has been wrapped in a crypto scandal that CYBERLEEK appears to be benefitting from, even though CYBERLEEK claims to be fighting against greedy corporations in their list of demands to Rockstar Games.
Rockstar Games statement on GTA 6 leaks
In a statement posted on X, Rockstar Games begins, “we know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week. It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto IV gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is absolutely not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.”
Rockstar Games apologises “that everything has taken as long as it has — from getting the game finished […] to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.”
The extended look at GTA 6 is still scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 27, and the game has been reconfirmed to be ready for its November 19 launch date.
The statement ends with Rockstar Games thanking the community for their messages of support over the past week.
