The Splitgate 2 Open Beta shut its portal (pun very much intended,) earlier today in order to prepare for its full launch just in time for the Summer Game Fest showcase. When Splitgate 2 arrives in its entirety, it’s expected that there will be fresh maps to navigate, new modes, and one huge surprise promised by 1047 Games. Rumours have been swirling surrounding the surprise: could it be an extraction mode, a Splitgate battle royale, or something else? Due to Splitgate 2’s presence at Summer Game Fest, the secret is out.
The Splitgate 2 beta had a turbulent time, mainly due to server issues preventing players from finding matches. Despite this, the first person shooter managed to garner over a million downloads as players hopped into the experience to test out its unique mechanics and fast-paced gameplay. The original Splitgate released in Early Access in May of 2019, but the developers have managed to build upon its strengths and act on player feedback the second time around.
Bring the action
Revealed at Summer Game Fest, Splitgate 2 has a battle royale mode. Of course, portals remain a main mechanic in navigating the huge new world.
Splitgate 2 is free-to-play now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and on PC through Steam and Epic Games storefronts.
