GameStop stores to host midnight release for Nintendo Switch 2

GameStop has announced that midnight releases will return to its stores for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.

The Switch 2 comes equipped with a 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps. It supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV and has 256GB of internal storage. The system provides Nintendo gamers with a new way to play with friends, sporting a built-in microphone that supports game chat, the ability to share your game screen, and video chat, all by pressing the new C button on the right Joy-Con 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will begin at GameStop stores when doors open on April 24, 2025. Online pre-orders can be placed via the GameStop website at 11am EST on the same day.

As for the midnight release, this will happen in all GameStop stores on June 5, 2025 at 12am EST/ June 4, 2025 at 9pm PST. To get ahead of the crowd, sign up to be notified when pre-orders go live through the GameStop website and place a pre-order, ensuring your chosen store has midnight pick-up.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $449.99, but there’s also an option to pre-order a Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle for $499.99. The launch titles are Mario Kart World for $79.99 and Donkey Kong Bananza for $69.99.

GameStop will also offer a Transfer and Trade program to allow players to upgrade from the first iteration of the Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 without losing data. It’s unclear exactly how this will work, but GameStop will provide more details closer to the time.
