Ubisoft reportedly developing a Rainbow Six Siege turn-based tactics game

Rainbow Six Siege remains one of Ubisoft’s biggest IPs, despite nearing its ten year mark. Fans of the tactical shooter are undoubtedly looking forward to Rainbow Six Siege X, but what about a turn-based tactics game based in the franchise’s universe?

If a new report by Insider Gaming rings true, Ubisoft are doing exactly that. The game’s camera angle is similar to that of Diablo 4 or XCOM, and the gameplay may feel familiar to what those titles have to offer, too.

Another twist in the world of Rainbow Six Siege

If you want an idea of what the game will entail, one of Insider Gaming’s sources said to “just watch some XCOM gameplay if you want to get an idea, I’d say it’s an updated version of that, with cinematic cutscenes and so on.” Just substitute the controllable characters with Rainbow Six Siege operators, of course.

Its gameplay loop is expected to be similar to that of Rainbow Six Siege in numerous ways “where the players would have to select different operators based on their skills to raid buildings, save hostages, etc.”

According to Insider Gaming, the top-down Rainbow Six Siege game is likely “one or two years out, but is aiming to be released as a current-generation console title for the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, PC, and possibly Nintendo Switch 2.”

It’s thought that the game time will run for 25-30 hours, but that is all subject to change if gameplay elements or cinematics are either added or taken out.

If a Rainbow Six Siege turn-based tactics game is in fact one to two years away, an official reveal shouldn’t be too far away.
