Marvel Rivals stormed to the top of the Steam charts when the team-based hero shooter launched on December 6. However many Marvel Rivals players on the Steam platform are encountering a purchase error.
Just like a range of other free-to-play games, there are microtransactions in Marvel Rivals, including an in-game store that is packed with various cosmetics. This allows you to customise your favourite characters, that’s if the purchase goes through.
How to fix the Steam purchase error in Marvel Rivals
While the developers are actively working on a fix for the issue, the team has provided a workaround for players to try:
- After being met with the error, close Marvel Rivals and restart the Steam client
- Make sure the Steam Overlay is enabled in your settings
- If the issue continues, try reinstalling Steam and restarting the game
To check that you have Steam Overlay on, locate Marvel Rivals in your library and right click on the game. Click on Properties and go to the General tab. Here, there will be an option to “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” via a toggle function. Once toggled on, you can confirm that the overlay is working by pressing Shift+Tab while in the game to bring up the Steam overlay.
Another method you can try is to verify the game files. If any files were corrupted along the way, having your system sift through them can smooth out any errors. Find Marvel Rivals in your library and right click on the game. Select Properties, visit the Installed Files tab, and hit “Verify Integrity of Game Files.”
If you are out of luck and are still unable to make your desired purchases after trying the methods detailed above, all that is left to do is wait for a patch to roll out to repair the Steam purchase error in Marvel Rivals.
