Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is just weeks away at this point, and Asobo is working hard to ramp up on solidifying the final touches on the new sim. Just like its predecessor, a closed alpha will be performed in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 ahead of launch and you can register your interest now.
The purpose of the playtest is to allow the team to stress test its servers and gather real-world data on the user experience.
Mic check
This technical test of the new sim will be exclusively available to Windows PC players. Even more exclusive will be that it’s limited to the Microsoft Store edition of the sim. This means you’ll need to get familiar with the Store alongside the Xbox services needed for applying.
It’s very straightforward as long as you have an existing Microsoft account, which is more than likely the case anyway if you’re gaming on PC (even if you don’t bother with Store apps.)
The technical alpha will be carried out for a limited time of around 2-3 days, according to Asobo, and will take place during an unspecified weekend in October. At the time of writing, the first weekend has passed, so three possible timeslots remain.
During the test, players will be able to access core parts of the sim rather than the entire package as the devs gather data and analyse feedback (which will primarily be focused on the discovery of any severe bugs and technical difficulties.)
Preflight inspection
Asobo recommends checking up on the PC requirements for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 before applying for the test.
As a general rule of thumb, those who can run the existing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 will fundamentally be able to run the new sim, as long as it’s not a significantly low-end machine. You’ll also need to submit a file from the DxDiag application for the team to review your system’s specifications.
Sign-ups remain live for now and have an unspecified deadline. Asobo does emphasize that applying doesn’t guarantee a slot in the test; those who are accepted will be notified via email.
