Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is on a “fast approach” to release, and Asobo is rolling out a torrent of details ahead of its arrival.
As is the case with every modern launch, pre-orders have gone live for the new sim. In the case of this title, there are four different editions that players can opt to go for. Interestingly, the options range from the somewhat budget-friendly $70 Standard Edition, to the eye-wateringly steep $200 so-called “Aviator Edition.”
Fair-priced airfares
Similar to its predecessor, Asobo has opted to split Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 into three core options: Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe. We’ll discuss the contents of the top-tier Aviator Edition later.
Standard (USD $69.99) comes with just the sim and a selection of 70 aircraft. This includes all of the Standard planes from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 along with around 30 all-new aircraft of various types. This includes new airliners like the Airbus A321LR and Boeing 737 MAX-8, general aviation planes like the CGS Hawk Arrow II and Cessna 400 Corvalis TT, and more unique selections like the new Hot Air Balloon with this enhanced soft-body physics. 150 handcrafted airports are also included in this edition.
Deluxe (USD $99.99) is the middle-of-the-road option that features all Standard Edition aircraft plus 10 more, such as the Cessna 408 SkyCourier and Cessna 188 AGTruck (the Air Tractor.) This edition also includes 5 more handcrafted airports.
Premium Deluxe (USD $129.99) takes the 80 aircraft of the previous two editions and adds 15 more (95 total,) such as the Boeing 747-400 “Dreamlifter,” Saab 340B, and Pilatus PC-24. A total of 160 handcrafted are included in this edition.
At the top of the ladder is the previously mentioned Aviator Edition that’s almost worth its weight in gold at $199.99.
This selection will net you all of the new and returning aircraft from the three lower-tier editions, as well as the 30 Microsoft-published Marketplace aircraft from Microsoft Flight Simulator that have been released between 2021 and 2024. This refers to aircraft such as the ATR 42/72-600 and Antonov An-225 Mriya, for instance.
If you have even deeper pockets, you can opt to splurge on the Limited Collector’s Edition, which includes the Aviator Edition of the sim, plus some physical goodies as well: steelbook case with game code, model of the Antonov An-225, branded flight bag with 6 logos to attach, FS 2024 logo pin and key ring, high-quality lithograph and, a personal letter from Jorg Neumann (head of Microsoft Flight Simulator at Asobo.)
Pre-flight checklist
Each of these different variants of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 appeal to vastly different budgets. For an even cheaper option, there’s also an Xbox Game Pass subscription that will grant day one access to the Standard Edition of the sim on November 19.
For those who do want to own Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 outright, you can pre-order via the Xbox store. As for the PC edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 specifically, so far there’s no option to pre-order on Steam.
Like other modern first-party Xbox releases, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 benefits from Xbox Play Anywhere functionality. That means if you buy it for Windows or Xbox Series X|S, you can access the game across both types of devices (with saved progress.)
