Blizzard skipped BlizzCon in 2020 due to the pandemic and it went digital in 2021. The digital format was supposed to continue into 2022, but that was scrapped in favour of an in-person event which was BlizzCon’s first event with spectators in attendance since 2019. This time, BlizzCon has been cancelled entirely and Blizzard don’t plan to host the event in 2024.
Blizzard already make various announcements through blog posts and their social media accounts, but their biggest event for fans of the studio’s various franchises has always been BlizzCon.
BlizzCon will skip 2024
It has been decided that “after careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it.”
According to Blizzard, they plan to “bring BlizzCon back in future years,” so it may not be the end of the showcase for good. As for future content, Blizzard are expected to “share some exciting plans for other industry trade shows and conventions like Gamescom.”
The hope is that in-person competitive and fan events, “alongside several live-streamed industry events where we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening in our game universes – will capture the essence of what makes the Blizzard community so special.”
Although BlizzCon has shut its doors for 2024, there’s an abundance of updates for fans to look forward to. The development teams over at World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred are preparing to share details on their respective content drops.
