People Can Fly cancels two projects and lays off employees

people can fly cancelled projects and lay offs

Polish game developer People Can Fly has announced the cancellation of two projects and confirms more layoffs. The studio cites issues with publishers and financial pressures as the reasons for this decision. People Can Fly are behind games such as Outriders and upcoming title, Gears of War: E-Day.

This isn’t the beginning of the struggles for People Can Fly. Last year, the studio cancelled further work on Project Dagger, expected to be an action-adventure IP that had been in development for multiple years. In addition, People Can Fly laid off over 120 employees back in December 2024 due to external market pressure being beyond what was predicted.

An update from People Can Fly

In a statement released via the official People Can Fly X account, CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski revealed the “very difficult decision to suspend the development of project Gemini and project Bifrost.”

The reason is put down to an unnamed publisher not presenting a draft of the subsequent content rider of the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on project Gemini, as well as the lack of communication from the publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate projects Gemini and Bifrost.

Due to this, and the analysis of cash flow “which showed a lack of prospects for securing organisational resources and funds necessary to continue the production and release of this project,” People Can Fly has made the decision to “regroup as a studio and scale down [their] teams.”

Of course, it’s sad to see that the hard work on project Gemini and project Bifrost will never reach the players, but the worst part is always the team members impacted by the People Can Fly layoffs.
