A staple to the series, it’s hardly surprising that Rainbow Road has been included in Mario Kart World. Being the launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s possible to unlock Rainbow Road on day one in Mario Kart World.
Shoot for the stars
To unlock Rainbow Road in Mario Kart World and the Special Cup it resides in, all you have to do is complete each of the seven existing cups in the Grand Prix mode (either in single player or multiplayer.) Those cups are the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, Shell Cup, Banana Cup, Leaf Cup, and Lightning Cup.
The unlock requirements for Rainbow Road are not challenging in the slightest. It doesn’t matter what CC you play on or where you even place, as long as you play and finish the courses in each cup, you’ll get access to the Special Cup.
Once you complete the final cup, you will be notified that a Special Cup is now available. Following suit of the previous cups, the Special Cup also contains four tracks. Those tracks are Acorn Heights, Mario Circuit, Peach Stadium, and Rainbow Road.
With the launch of Mario Kart World, Rainbow Road has been re-imagined. The map combines the feel of all the previous iterations of Rainbow Road, still with its own unique spin. Most notably, the beginning of the course sees you start the race on the ground, before ascending you up to the clouds above and onto the vibrant course. As you progress onward, you’ll continue to reach new heights, as the final segment of the course takes place in outer space.
