Sim Update 2 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 finally arrives

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 sim update 2

Sim Update 2 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, an incredibly substantial update, has finally hit the servers. Players of the sim have been waiting with bated breath for months, as this update provides an immense changelog of bug fixes, improvements and additions. Even Asobo itself admits in its patch notes that it’s by far the largest number of fixes deployed at once so far.

Large and in charge

The new update spans across the board for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. From improvements made to stability and performance, to various issues being tackled across several aircraft—there’s practically not a single area where this update doesn’t touch.

Of course, this is the result of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 having launched in a less than stellar condition. Asobo has been hard at work sprucing things up since day one. Several small fixes have been deployed since then, but this second major update, in particular, has been a long time coming.

Months ago, it’s this update that was promised to provide substantial improvements. It has been in public beta for several weeks, as a result. Consequently, fans are undoubtedly hoping for it to be the silver bullet that finally gets Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 soaring with confidence. No doubt, more than anyone else, Asobo is hoping for this outcome as well.

As mentioned, the patch notes for this update are incredibly extensive. But, the general scope of this update includes the enhancement of most aircraft, along with general fixes all over the sim. Whether playing on console or PC, the experience is expected to be smoother, less buggy and more stable.

On PC, Asobo implores players with Nvidia GPUs to make sure to update to the latest (at the time) driver release—firmware 576.28. This “resolve[s] certain crashes with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and [improves] performance and stability.”

It will be interesting to see the feedback that comes from this release. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has been out for half a year as of the time of publication, yet reports show that its adoption rate is still somewhat low.

Navigraph’s FlightSim Community Survey, which consisted of over 23,000 participants, showed that (as of April 2025) 52% of simmers have still been opting for MSFS 2020, compared to just 24.9% flying in MSFS 2024 as their primary choice. Of course, this is a relatively small collection of players. With that said, the consensus throughout discussion boards has been less than favourable as it relates to MSFS 2024.

Sim Update 2 may hopefully shake things up in the right direction for the fledgling simulator, but only time will tell.
