Apex Legends is celebrating its sixth anniversary with various rewards for all players to earn. However, the Apex Legends untrusted system file error is back and causing problems for Steam users. It is related to Easy Anti-Cheat, the software used to try keep cheaters out of the arena. There are potential fixes you can attempt to get you past the error pop up and back into the action.
Put simply, this issue is caused by Easy Anti-Cheat flagging your PC as having untrusted system files. Although this is supposed to stop hackers from being able to access the game, it can malfunction and flag regular files.
How to fix untrusted system file error in Apex Legends
Respawn has shared a temporary workaround on X as they prepare a permanent fix:
- Navigate to where the Apex Legends file is installed on your PC (e.g. Program Files\EA Games\Apex\paks\Win64)
- Delete the file named ui(01).dll
- Restart your PC and launch Apex Legends through the app
If that doesn’t work, you can attempt to run Easy Anti-Cheat as an administrator by:
- Going to Apex Legends from your Steam library
- Right click and navigate to the game properties
- Hit the ‘browse’ option from local files
- Identify ‘Easy Anti-Cheat launcher’ from the list of files
- Right click and select Properties and go to the Compatibility tab
- Tick the box that says ‘run this program as administrator’
- Click on ‘apply’

If either of the methods work, you’ll be able to bypass the Apex Legends loading screen and queue into a game as usual. Those who are still unable to access the game will have to wait for the problem to be patched.
