It has been announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be the final season before the game is shut down for good.
The MultiVersus beta originally rolled out in July 2022 as a free-to-play platform fighter, but its success was short-lived. The beta was taken offline almost a year later as its player count plummeted. The developers worked on improving all aspects of the game and relaunched it in May 2024, but history is repeating itself.
The last hurrah
MultiVersus Season 5 will begin on February 4, 2025, and run through until May 30, 2025. The upcoming season will see two new playable characters join the roster, DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny.
All online features remain available until Season 5 concludes on May 30 at 9am PST. After that, there will be an option to play MultiVersus offline via the local gameplay functionalities, either solo against A.I. opponents, or with up to three friends.
To gain access to offline play, you need to download the latest version of the game and log in during Season 5. After logging in, a local save file will be automatically created that is connected to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, allowing you to continue to play MultiVersus offline with all the content you’ve earned and purchased. Also, the game will be delisted on all storefronts following the conclusion of Season 5.
Speaking of purchases, real money transactions are no more. However, you can still use remaining Gleamium or character tokens to access in-game content until Season 5 ends.
It’s a shame to see MultiVersus shut down, but once again, Warner Bros has let it slip through their fingers.
