As Assassin’s Creed fans prepare for the launch of Shadows on February 14, 2025, many past titles in the franchise have been hit with huge discounts.
Although Assassin’s Creed Origins released in 2017, it has seen an influx of new players since its price was slashed by 90% on Steam. The game once had “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, with it falling to “Mixed” to kick off 2025 due to recent reviews.
An undefeatable enemy
Microsoft’s 24H2 update has caused crashing and black screens for many players across many Ubisoft titles, including Assassin’s Creed Origins. Ubisoft first commented on the issue back in November 2024, but it is yet to be resolved. Here, Ubisoft recommend that players do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until the problem has been resolved.
If you are already on version 24H2 and are experiencing issues with Assassin’s Creed Origins, a workaround has been offered by Ubisoft:
- Open Task Manager. This can be accomplished by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can right-click on the Start button and select Task Manager from the menu.
- In the Task Manager window, look for your game in the Processes tab. It might be listed under the name of the game or the game launcher.
- Click on the game’s name to highlight it. Then, click the End Task button at the bottom right of the window. This will close the game.
Ubisoft and Microsoft are working together to find a solution. However, it’s definitely frustrating for those who picked up Assassin’s Creed Origins during the Steam sale and were hoping to take a trip to Ancient Egypt during the holiday season.
