The third major patch for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has rolled out to players on PC and Xbox Series X|S. This new patch brings the sim version up to 1.2.7.0.
As promised in the recent Developer’s Stream, this update includes a substantial number of bug fixes and improvements for the fledgling sim.
Speed tape
Several different areas of the sim have been touched on according to the long list of patch notes. Various crash instances have been fixed, along with memory optimisations which should further help mitigate crashes and improve performance.
General bug fixes have also been applied, including various interactions with menus, control surfaces, inputs and more. Many major bugs in Career Mode have also been looked at, such as “[fixing] most detected buildings spawning on parking spots.” This bug in particular has been a headache for a number of players.
Other areas have seen improvements, such as night lighting being touched up, reduction of object pop-in, and improvements to Nvidia DLSS antialiasing noise— just to name a few.
Avionics systems such as the Garmin GPS units have also received updates that fix even more bugs.
Various aircraft throughout the different editions have been worked on, with mostly minor bug fixes and improvements made to them. Speaking of aircraft, players with ported aircraft from MSFS 2020 will need to go to the “My Library” menu and manually reactivate them and then restart the sim to access them. This menu is nested inside the Marketplace tab; the Marketplace is expected to arrive in early 2025.
Overall, this patch goes far and wide throughout the sim in an effort to improve what has been a rather dicey user experience thus far.
The work is just beginning
It’s been nearly a month since Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched and Asobo has been working around the clock since. After fixing the issues that rendered release day a meltdown, the team and its partners have been trying to mitigate problems left and right. It continues to call on the player community to report any findings.
The next major update planned for the sim will be World Update: Brazil; initially intended to launch this month, it will now arrive at some point in January or February.
Additionally, two Sim Updates will go live in 2025, along with several other updates and even two unnamed “surprises.”
These are just some of the highlights of the aforementioned Developer Stream from last week. In short, a lot is in store for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
