Life By You was revealed by Paradox Interactive in March 2023. Since then, it has been delayed multiple times, with no new release date pencilled into the calendar. The fate of Life By You has now been decided as it has been announced that the game is cancelled and development has come to a halt.
From the get-go, gamers began drawing comparisons between The Sims and Life By You, as there were many similarities that could be seen from the trailer alone.
The end of the road
In a Paradox Forum, a member off staff shared a message from Deputy CEO, Mattias Lilja which reads, “sadly, we’ve decided to cancel the release of our long-awaited life sim Life by You. This was an incredibly difficult call to make and is a clear failure on Paradox’s part to meet both our own and the community’s expectations.”
“Life by You has been in the works for a long time and we’ve been very excited about the promise and the potential of this game. Our hope was always that it would be able to leave a mark in this exciting and new genre for us.” To shed light on the delays, Paradox say that for each delay made, the team saw “incremental improvements, which in hindsight may well have led us to focus on details rather than the whole picture.”
Although the life sim was supposed to roll out in early access, that was held off too in order to “re-evaluate Life by You, as we still felt that the game was lacking in some key areas.” After a lot of hardwork and uncertainty, Paradox came to “a point where we believe that more time will not get us close enough to a version we would be satisfied with, then we believe it is better to stop.”
If it didn’t get cancelled, Life By You would’ve been the first real competitor to the staple of the genre that is The Sims. With that being said, all fans can do is look ahead to the next entry in The Sims series, known as Project Rene.
