After a long hiatus, the Doom franchise is back and we are going back to the medieval era. Doom received a reboot in 2016, followed by a sequel which goes by the name of Doom Eternal in 2020. Now, a new entry to the beloved series has been announced at Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
You may remember the FTC lawsuit, where leaked Microsoft court document published in 2023 outlined that a new Doom game was in development. We now know that Doom: The Dark Ages is its name, and that it will be a prequel to the 2016 release.
Feel the rage
“Go medieval on battalions of demons, made up of all-new threats as well as familiar foes reforged from Doom’s classic bestiary. Bring their malicious forces to heel with heavy duty shooter combat in a heroic story of epic proportion, powered by the latest idTech engine.”
Inspired by the original Doom players will face clashes with “destructible demons, vicious melee strikes and more.” With a blend of ranged bombardment and melee aggression, any opponent that crosses your path will be sorry!
The trailer shows off gameplay, including weapons, enemies and fantasy-like environments. However, what fans will be pleased to see is that the upcoming title remains as gory as ever.
Doom: The Dark Ages will launch on Xbox (including Game Pass,) PC, and PlayStation 5 in 2025. The game is available to wishlist now on a platform of your choice.
Whether you’re a veteran fan of Doom or you’re just getting into the franchise, you have one objective, destroy all evil that resides in the Dark Ages.
This article will be updated as the showcase continues
