The Hero Mastery Gauntlet is a co-op mode which primarily sees you protecting towers. Along the way, you can earn a range of rewards and fight your way towards glory on the leaderboard. However, the Hero Mastery Gauntlet will be discontinued going into the next Overwatch 2 season.
This isn’t the first mode to get discontinued in Overwatch 2. When the game originally launched, players were promised a PvE experience packed with hero missions. However, this was cut which was a huge disappointment to the community.
Overwatch 2 Hero Mastery Gauntlet is coming to an abrupt end
In the lead up to Season 11, Blizzard state that they have “taken the time to evaluate a variety of game modes based on how much they are being played.”
Hero Mastery Gauntlet in particular was meant to “bring the high score-chasing excitement of Hero Mastery missions into a multiplayer format. Unfortunately, it hasn’t resonated with players in the ways that we hoped. With this in mind, we have decided to discontinue Hero Mastery Gauntlet as a permanent mode, and it will not be available to play starting in Season 11.”
Those who play the mode have until the end of Season 10 to complete the Lifetime Challenges related to the Hero Mastery Gauntlet and climb up the Top 500 leaderboards.
To conclude the announcement, the team give “thanks to all of you who jumped into the Gauntlet.” Also, they assure that Individual Hero Mastery Solo Courses will continue to be available and more will roll out in future seasons.
Overwatch 2 Season 11 is expected to begin towards the middle of June. Until then, check out more of the latest news:
