Dead Cells team promise the “game will not go anywhere” as development ends

Dead Cells developer faq about game support

In the summer of 2018, Dead Cells hit storefronts and quickly cemented itself as one of the best metroidvania inspired action-platformers on the market. Now, Update 35 has been announced as the final Dead Cells patch in the works.

With the future of Dead Cells seemingly up in the air, the minds of its player base have been put at ease.

Motion Twin work through their backlog

In a Motion Twin FAQ, the team answer an array of questions about Dead Cells, previous games, and their upcoming entry, Windblown. One question the team touched on is one the community has on their lips:

“Are you stopping adding new content to Dead Cells in order to ‘make room’ for Windblown?”

The initial reaction from the team regarding the question is that it “hurts.” They continue “so, no, that would be quite an illogical idea to try to kill Dead Cells to replace it with Windblown: as Dead Cells can’t be killed, like at all! The game will not go anywhere, or be shut down or whatever.”

The studio admits “we could definitely have kept both Dead Cells and Windblown productions going on side by side. It would have actually been simply way easier and profitable to just be greedy and bloat Dead Cells with extra content for years and years. Sadly, we’ve seen that happen to some games in the past.”

However, that would have “diminished its overall quality” they explain, and that’s a not possible in order to “keep its core original formula intact.”

Dead Cells ends development gameplay

In regards to the swirling comparisons, “Dead Cells and Windblown have never been in competition, not in any way. We are actually seeing quite a bright future where both of our worlds can have pretty interesting projects coming side by side.”

It’s reassuring that fans will be able to continue to enjoy Dead Cells in all its glory, even if it has been shelved by the developers. It won’t be the last we hear from Motion Twin, as the final chapter of the roguelike ends, a new story will be written with Windblown.
