It has been confirmed that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be taken on by new developers which has caused a stir among the player base. However, Sumo Nottingham has reassured gamers that its future will be in safe hands.
Whether you’re assigned the role of the notorious killer, or trying to escape with your life, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre gameplay manages to capture the essence of the classic film. With that being said, many issues have caused the player count to decrease, despite being added to the Game Pass library.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre development switch shocks players
Sumo Nottingham released a statement via X which informed fans of the move by stating that the team will “shortly be hanging up their chainsaws and traps as their work on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre comes to an end.”
Although a specific date for the developer swap hasn’t been announced, Sumo Nottingham will be “working closely” with the incoming unnamed developer “to ensure a smooth and efficient handoff.”
As the original crew takes a step back from the horror experience, they reveal that the studio is working on a new project and more details will be shared “in due course.”
This unexpected news has understandably raised concerns among The Texas Chain Saw Massacre fans, but the game’s publisher is here to put minds at ease.
“This does not change the plans for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in terms of support, content, or longevity,” says Gun Interactive, and we are assured that players won’t be interrupted by this decision.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has received mixed reviews since it launched back in August 2023. Just a month after launch, the developers were forced to remove crossplay between PC and console due to cheaters, and that appeared to be the catalyst of the game’s steady decline. Not to mention that it has been accused of being pay-to-win, with the strongest characters locked behind a paywall (we’re looking at you, Danny.)
All we can do is hope that the new The Texas Chain Saw Massacre developers can turn this downward spiral on its head and avoid it becoming another abandoned slaughterhouse like Friday the 13th.
