Killstreaks are a staple of the Call of Duty franchise and earning them allows you to show off your skills, as well as unleash chaos onto the battlefield. The Cruise Missile first made its debut in the original Modern Warfare 2 and it has been a popular choice ever since. The latest Modern Warfare 3 update has left the Cruise Missile worse for wear, and players aren’t pleased.
The fan-favourite killstreak is now out of control, literally. After calling in the Cruise Missile, it now becomes impossible to steer, so all we can do is hope that luck is on your side when you’re trying to use it to eliminate the opposition.
Modern Warfare 3 players frustrated by the bugged Cruise Missile
An update rolled out in Modern Warfare 3 on February 21, fixing an existing problem with the Cruise Missile, but seemingly causing another. Although an issue has been repaired which caused Cruise Missiles to explode mid-air if the player controlling the missile was killed, the streak is now completely useless.
“Every time I get my predator missile kill streak, I launch it and then I can’t steer it and it just hits some random place off the map,” complained one fan, while another claims to have “wasted 3 missiles already.”
This issue is particularly frustrating in Ranked Play as the Cruise Missile is the only streak featuring in the competitive ruleset. Since Trophy Systems no longer destroy Cruise Missiles, going on a six killstreak has become more important than ever in the mode. However, all that hard work goes to waste when the streak doesn’t work as intended.
If you’re in a Public Match, it may be best to avoid having the Cruise Missile equipped until it’s fixed. Luckily, there are a variety of other options you can use that are just as impactful. The Precision Airstrike also requires a six gun streak to earn and it allows you to set a path for a devastating jet to destroy anything in its way.
In exchange for a seven killstreak, you’ll be granted an SAE which will see you unleash explosives on three chosen areas of the map. Perhaps you may prefer to call in a Mortar Strike, sending several waves of bombs to attack a specific location.
Only time will tell if the developers will deploy an update to patch out the issue for good. Until then, consider checking out more Call of Duty content:
