It’s only been a short time since the PS5 Slim hit the scene, yet Sony is already providing new colour options for owners to choose from. The new colours were shown off at CES 2024: a deep Cobalt Blue, bold Volcanic Red and shiny Sterling Silver side plates have all been revealed to be coming soon.
With these new colour choices, PS5 Slim owners can add an eye-catching visual flare to their system.

These three new colors for the PS5 Slim are reminiscent of the Deep Earth coloured collection for the original PS5 models, in addition to also being very reminiscent of the brand colours of the Gran Turismo series.
Unlike the existing white side plates for the PS5 Slim, these coloured side plates will each feature a uniform matte plastic finish across each panel. The original white side plates are split with a glossy plastic finish on the top, and matte finish at the bottom.
Matte plastic is known to be more resistant to scratches and fingerprints and is often preferred by most customers over glossy plastic for this reason in particular.
For those that subscribe to the “matte black everything” mantra popularised by mega tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, fully black official side plates for the PS5 Slim are also in the works, according to a report from The Verge.
On that note, popular electronic cosmetics-maker dBrand has long released its own line of both coloured and solid-black side plates for the PS5, aptly named DarkPlates.
When DarkPlates first arrived a few years back, dBrand infamously antagonised Sony by harping on the fact it was the first to provide such an option for consumers in the absence of Sony doing so. That said, new DarkPlate designs compatible with the altered dimensions of the PS5 Slim have not yet been revealed, let alone released. So, it looks like Sony will have the first-move advantage this time around.
