Geoff Keighley and his team behind The Game Awards are hard at work at preparing the next show. Just recently, Keighley took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share when the next show will be.
We now know that The Game Awards 2023 will officially air on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
Rolling out the (black and) red carpet
The Game Awards has become the premiere awards show for the industry over the last few years. Its grown in popularity and legitimacy each year since its debut back 2014—nearly a full decade ago.
In addition to celebrating big (and small) releases throughout each year, The Game Awards has also become a place to make big announcements, whether it be new games, new expansions, and even new consoles. For instance, the full design of the Xbox Series X was revealed back in 2019 at the show.
2023 has seen the release of many high-profile titles, so there’s a lot of candidates that will be in the running for awards in various categories, along with the coveted big award of “Game of the Year.”
With the broadcast date now in the wild, community polls should open in a matter of weeks.
Of course, many gaming fans are now eagerly theorising as to what major new announcements will be made at the show. So far, nothing has leaked, but there’s still nearly two full months for that to change.
As for Keighley’s other big gaming media project, Summer Game Fest, that too has been confirmed to be returning for its fourth iteration in June 2024. Indeed, Keighley and his team continue to never seem to have much downtime as they’re now responsible for some of the biggest shows in the industry, particularly filling the space that was once occupied by E3.
