Layoffs are something we see too often in the gaming industry and Epic Games is the latest company to slash its work force. A staggering 16% of Epic’s employees have been hit by the latest round of layoffs. Epic Games acquired Mediatonic in 2021, approximately a year after they launched Fall Guys. It has been reported that the entirety of Mediatonic were laid off, so is Fall Guys shutting down?
If Mediatonic were hit as hard as it’s claimed, this would have huge implications on the future of the beloved battle royale.
Is Fall Guys shutting down?
The CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, sent an email to Epic employees which was later posted on their website.
Part of the email states that Epic “aren’t cutting any core businesses, and are continuing to invest in games with Fortnite first-party development, the Fortnite creator ecosystem and economy, Rocket League and Fall Guys; and services for developers including Unreal Engine for games and enterprise, Epic Games Store, Epic Games Publishing, Epic Online Services, Kids Web Services, MetaHuman, Twin Motion, Quixel Mega Scans, Capturing Reality, ArtStation, Sketchfab and Fab.”
According to Epic, “two-thirds of the layoffs were in teams outside of core development” and the claims that the entirety of the Fall Guys work force had been cut is allegedly false.
It appears that Fall Guys isn’t going anywhere and the game, along with other titles and services will continue to be supported. It’s business as usual as far as Epic are concerned.
