Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, has revealed that he would like to revisit the MechAssault franchise and believes that the games were somewhat ahead of their time.
MechAssault was published by Microsoft as an Xbox exclusive back in 2002. It was one of the first 100 Platinum Hit games in the history of Microsoft Game Studios and one of the first in line to support Xbox Live online multiplayer. Despite this, the series ended with MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf which was released in 2004.
Bringing back memories and a whole lot of destruction
During a Q&A at Tokyo Game Show, Phil Spencer was asked which franchise he would like to see brought back in the future.
His response was:
“I always wanted us to go back and revisit MechAssault MechWarrior space, I think there’s a lot we can do. There’s so much about that whole franchise that in some way was ahead of its time, and it would be nice to get to go back and revisit. We don’t have a plan today, so it’s not a leak of anything. “But that would be a nice one.”
Although Spencer clarified that there are no plans in place to revive the MechAssault games, fans are of course remaining hopeful. Only time will tell if MechAssault will get a new game or even a remaster, but it’s promising to see that Phil Spencer hasn’t forgotten about the franchise.
