A key ingredient to the planning and execution of a heist is a team. In PAYDAY 3, you have 6 characters to choose from, including Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains, who have come out of retirement to reclaim their position as master criminals. Playing as a team, especially in random matchmaking, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so you may want to know how to play PAYDAY 3 solo.
The PAYDAY series is known for being heavily focused on multiplayer and co-op and PAYDAY 3 is no different. Sometimes, you may want to take on a life of crime all alone.
How to play PAYDAY 3 solo
Once you’ve made it past the tutorial, you’ll be able to start matchmaking. However, you’ll quickly notice that there’s no official solo mode, but there is a workaround:
- In PAYDAY 3, select “Join a Heist and Matchmake”
- Choose the heist you want to play
- Toggle the “Lobby Type” to “Invite Only”
- Alter the difficulty level and press “Matchmake”
- When you’re ready, select your loadout and begin the heist
By setting the lobby to invite only, it stops other players from being able to join your game. Instead, you’ll be accompanied by 3 AI heisters.
If you’re still experiencing server issues, playing with AI may be your only option to complete your mission. PAYDAY 3’s CEO has issued an apology for unstable servers at launch.
Now you know how to play PAYDAY 3 solo (kind of,) you can decide whether or not you want to be joined by real-life companions or computer ones.
