Overwatch 2 players began venting their frustrations about the game through Steam reviews as soon as it became available to download on the platform. Subsequently, the game has fallen victim to review-bombing and the team over at Blizzard has responded.
Review-bomb is a term used to refer to a coordinated effort to plummet a game’s user review score. In Overwatch 2’s case, many complains are centred around the state of the game, as well as the cancelled PvE mode.
Overwatch 2 is now the lowest rated game on Steam thanks to review-bombs
In a recent blog post, Overwatch 2 game director, Aaron Keller touched on the overwhelmingly negative review-bombing on Steam:
“We also launched on Steam last week, and, although being review-bombed isn’t a fun experience, it’s been great to see lots of new players jump into Overwatch 2 for the first time. Our goal with Overwatch 2 has been to make the game more accessible than ever for more people than ever before.”
Keller recognises “many of the reviews on Steam mention the cancellation of the much larger component of PvE that was announced in 2019 as one of their primary reasons for dissatisfaction with the game. I get that. That announcement was about an ambitious project that we ultimately couldn’t deliver.”
At the time of writing, Overwatch 2 has 148,614 reviews on Steam and only 9% of those are positive. Regardless, Keller leaves the blog on a positive note, explaining that the team are focused on improving and adding to the game moving forward.
