Not everyone seems to be on board with the idea of AI in video games. However, it may have its advantages after all. AI has been introduced to PUBG in an attempt to combat cheaters.
Unfortunately, cheaters are a big issue in gaming, especially in free-to-play titles such as PUBG. In PUBG, cheating is having a significant impact on ranked matches, in particular.
PUBG is using AI to tackle cheaters
The PUBG anti-cheat team are always eager to provide fans with regular updates. The latest dev letter has provided details on a new system used to hunt down cheaters using AI.
“To enhance our countermeasures, the PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Anti-Cheat Team initiated the development of a machine learning model that could learn the characteristics and patterns of Mastery Level abuse. Utilizing this model, we have expanded and refined the criteria for detecting disruptive players throughout May and June of this year. As a result, we have observed several positive changes. The number of bans issued against disruptive accounts has increased by over threefold compared to the period before the introduction of this model.”
That’s not all, as this new model appears to be having a long-term impact on the hacker problem as “the internal monitoring process for suspected disruptive players/accounts has shown continuous improvement, and the number of monitored account vendors has decreased. We have also observed an increase in the prices of these accounts.”
Despite an average of 60,000 to a maximum of approximately 100,000 accounts being banned on a weekly basis, hackers are still running rampant. Hopefully, AI will remain on our side in the fight against PUBG cheaters.
